CERV Project Ref: 101138902

The GroundUp project’s Study Visit “Results of the Conference on the Future of Europe in the Context of EU Citizenship Rights – More Power to Citizens” took place from 7–9 April 2025 in Brussels, Belgium, and brought together 128 participants from 15 countries, including youth representatives, educators, policymakers, and local actors. Led by LAG Pirkan Helmi (Finland), the event was the culmination of preparatory activities across several EU countries aimed at empowering young people to engage in European democratic processes.

The study visit featured interactive sessions, including a Citizens’ Dialogue, Oxford Debate, World Café, and meetings with civil society organisations and EU institutions. Highlights included in-depth discussions with MEP Merja Kyllönen, a session with the ECIT Foundation, and institutional visits to the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the Łódzkie Regional Office. The programme explored the impact of the Conference on the Future of Europe, the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI), and mechanisms for civic participation.

The event offered a unique platform for transferring local consultations to EU-level policy dialogue, reinforcing the youth voice in shaping democratic futures. Local preparatory events held in Czechia, Austria, Portugal, Italy, and Bulgaria ensured that grassroots contributions were reflected. With a focus on digital participation, sustainability, and rural inclusion, the visit underlined the importance of multi-level civic engagement and inspired participants to pursue future roles in EU policymaking.
