The GroundUp project’s event, “European Conference: After the Election, How Do We Create and Maintain Trust in the EU and Its Institutions in View of Disinformation, Fake News, and Misleading Content?”, took place from February 5–7, 2025, in Halland, Sweden, bringing together over 100 participants from 15 European countries. Organized by Community Led Local Development Halland (CLLD Halland), the event fostered discussions on the impact of misinformation on political trust and strategies to strengthen EU democracy.
The conference featured keynote speeches from experts in EU governance and disinformation, interactive World Café discussions, and a Citizens’ Dialogue where young participants engaged with policymakers on digital transformation and democratic engagement. A study visit to Källsjö Bryggeri provided insights into rural entrepreneurship and community-driven EU projects.
Designed to empower rural youth and promote civic engagement, the event emphasized the role of education, digital literacy, and media awareness in countering misinformation. By creating a platform for meaningful dialogue between young citizens and European decision-makers, the event underscored the importance of trust and transparency in the EU’s democratic institutions.
