"Youth Hands in Hands" Project Presentation and Awareness Conference Was Held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 16 May 2018

Youth Hands in Hands for Combating Drug and Substance Abuse’ project is implemented under Structured Dialogue: meetings between young people and decision-makers in youth. The general aim of the project is to develop a youth policy to combat drug and substance abuse from the perspective of young people contribution by experts and decision-makers. The specific objectives of the project are as follows:

  • to prepare a report a snapshot of the European drug situation based on the latest
    available information from EU monitoring activities.
  • to have an overview of the legal and regulatory framework that controls the consumption of drugs and substance
  • to exchange the experience on preventing drug and substance consumption
  • to develop capacity and cooperation among the partner organisations to fight against drug and substance abuse

The project started on 1 May 2018 and will finish on the 31st of January 2019. It contains four main activities. Three of these activities will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, and one of the activities will be implemented in Frankfurt, Germany. The activities are Launching and Awareness-raising meeting, Exchanging good practices, Youth Hands in Hands Report Workshop and Dissemination and Awareness-raising meeting.

The report is a snapshot of the European drug and substance abuse situation based on the latest available information from EU monitoring activities that will be prepared during the “Youth Hands in Hands for Combating Drug and Substance Abuse”. The framework of the report and the training materials will be shared as an output of the project in order to have followed up effect in local communities.

The target youth group who has economic difficulties and is under being addicted risky aged between 13 and 30 years old in Istanbul district. Additionally, young people who are active in civil society or young people who have fewer opportunities such as cultural obstacles and financial difficulties. 140 young people who are defined above will come up together with decision-makers and experts in Launching and Awareness-raising meeting and Dissemination and Awareness-raising meeting

Fifty-eight young people, experts and decision-makers come up together from Bulgaria, Czech Rep., Croatia, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Netherlands and Turkey to develop a youth policy fight against drug and substance abuse. The seminars and trainings will be run during the project, and Youth Policy Report will be prepared with the contribution of participants and decision makers. The participants will develop their active participation skills; they will be more active in their society during the Youth Hands in Hands Report Workshop.
